The Black Lab Mouse slides in alongside our White Lab Mouse as the unappreciated magicians of modern medicine. Despite their name, these hardworking little rodents didn't steal anything - the term "mouse" has its roots in the Sanskrit “mush” for "thief." But tiny mus musculus have redeemed themselves many times over, providing us with invaluable insight and treatments that save lives. Of course, fruit flies and C. elegans have also been sacrificed for mankind's benefit, but when it comes to understanding genetics, immunity, cancer, and drug testing, only a true mammal will do. And when it comes to mammals, mice are among the most convenient - fast-breeding, short-lived, gentle towards offspring, and surprisingly pleasant. But despite the monumental contribution of mice, their service doesn't absolve us of our ethical responsibilities. For generations, mice families like the C57BL/6 have given their all so that we can live better. As such,
